Each year the Kansas City St. Patrick's Day Parade has a different theme. The theme may reflect our Irish heritage, our Kansas City heritage or may even build upon current events. In the fall before the next year's parade, the Parade Committee begins throwing around many different ideas for the upcoming parade's theme. After several weeks of difficult deliberations, white smoke appears from the roof of Kelly's in Westport signifying that the theme has been chosen. Not really, but...you get the idea.
This year we celebrate the 35th Annual Kansas City St. Patrick's Day Parade. A second generation of Kansas Citians now are enjoying the Parade and we want to celebrate the passing of traditions from generation to generation.
The Parade theme not only honors the Irish heritage of Kansas City, but also Kansas City itself and what makes us what we are. We look forward to seeing the creative ways parade entrants will combine the celebration of St. Patrick, being Irish (even for a day), and being a Kansas Citian.
